This post will begin a blog series on the ins and outs of making a move to Durham from the US. We read several blogs before making our move and they proved very helpful to us. It is our desire to share what we have learned along the way with others seeking to pursue a degree here at Durham University.

Some helpful information you will find here will include:

Finding a place to live
Securing student visas
How to cut down on flight costs
Budgeting living expenses
Transportation in Durham
The University College system
What to pack
What NOT to pack
Traveling within the UK
Area churches
Settling in your children
Area banking
Groceries
Telephones and Internet–Landlines, Mobiles, etc.

Please let us know if there are any topics you would like to know more about.  We would love to discuss what interests you.

You may also find many, many pages about how to fall in love with Durham. That is the easy part. It just happens. The people here in the northeast are very helpful, warm and friendly. The places…. well they are beyond belief. It is a beautiful land with a long and rich history.

Enjoy the journey, learn much and pass it on.

Cheers,
Rob and Beth
