It was another beautiful day in County Durham today. There was a fall crispness in the air as Mr. Ray came round and picked us up. He sweetly offered to take us on another Field Trip Friday, this one to Finchale Priory ( pronounced Finkle). I’ve been wanting to take the kids over there for a few weeks. It isn’t far away and looked like a great place to do a bit of exploring.
The Priory was established in 1196. It became a site for the monks from Durham to come for a few weeks for rest from their normal duties.
We all had a great time visiting these ruins along the River Wear (long ee).
After we toured the ruins. Mr. Ray took us out to his old neighbourhood for some delicious fish and chips for lunch.
Most of all the buildings from this area were built using sandstone blocks from local quarries. As you can see above sandstone doesn’t weather well.
Such a beautiful timeless place.
A big thank you to Mr. Ray for another wonderful Field Trip Friday.
Blessings,
Beth
